  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Use tamari for a gluten-free option.
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider or rice vinegar White vinegar can also work.

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch Arrowroot powder works as a non-corn alternative.

Equipment

  • large skillet
  • Medium bowl

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare the Sauce: Whisk together the sauce ingredients in a medium bowl. Combine brown sugar, ginger, garlic, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, vinegar, beef broth, and cornstarch. Set aside.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Break it up as it cooks until browned, about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat and keep warm.
  3. Sauté the Onions: Add olive oil to the skillet and heat for about 30 seconds. Add onion pieces and sauté for 1 minute until translucent.
  4. Add the Vegetables: Toss in quartered mushrooms, chopped red bell pepper, broccoli florets, and matchstick-cut carrots. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp.
  5. Incorporate the Beef and Sauce: Return the ground beef to the skillet, pour over the sauce mixture, stir, and let bubble gently for 1-2 minutes until thickened.
  6. Season and Serve: Adjust salt and pepper to taste. Serve over cooked rice or noodles, garnished with scallions and sesame seeds if desired.
