Ingredients

For the Meatloaf
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil Adds moisture and flavor; can be substituted with canola oil.
  • 1 large Yellow Onion Enhances sweetness and depth; shallots can be a great substitute.
  • 2 pounds Ground Beef (80/20) Provides structure and moisture; ground turkey is a leaner alternative.
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs Contributes to texture; panko works well for a lighter bite.
  • 2 large Eggs Binds the mixture; omit for a vegetarian version.
  • 1 cup Whole Milk Adds creaminess; substitute with beef broth or non-dairy milk for variations.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Enhances overall flavor; adjust to taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper Adds seasoning; white pepper provides a milder flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Deepens onion flavor; fresh onions can replace it.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Boosts flavor; fresh garlic can be used instead.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning Adds an herb flavor profile; dried basil and oregano can substitute.
For the Glaze
  • 1 cup Ketchup Acts as the base for glaze, providing sweetness; BBQ sauce creates a smoky flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce Adds umami depth; soy sauce works as a viable alternative.
  • 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar Sweetens the topping; substitute with honey or maple syrup.
For Garnish
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Parsley (chopped) Adds freshness and color; can be omitted if unavailable.

  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, eggs, whole milk, and all the seasonings, including sautéed onions. Mix until just combined.
  4. Transfer the meat mixture to a lined baking sheet and shape it into a loaf form, about 2 inches thick.
  5. In a small bowl, mix ketchup with brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce until smooth. Spread the glaze over the top of the meatloaf.
  6. Cover loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Remove foil in the last 10-15 minutes for caramelization.
