Method
 

Make the Cake
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until smooth.
  4. Sift in flour and baking powder, add milk and lavender; stir gently until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into prepared pans and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. While cakes bake, make the lavender simple syrup by simmering sugar, water, and lavender for 5 minutes.
  7. Beat unsalted butter and powdered sugar for buttercream until fluffy, then add heavy cream and cooled syrup.
  8. Once cakes are cool, assemble by brushing layers with syrup and topping with buttercream.
  9. Frost the entire cake with remaining buttercream and decorate as desired.
