Make the Cake
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare two 8-inch round cake pans.
- Cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until smooth.
- Sift in flour and baking powder, add milk and lavender; stir gently until just combined.
- Pour the batter into prepared pans and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- While cakes bake, make the lavender simple syrup by simmering sugar, water, and lavender for 5 minutes.
- Beat unsalted butter and powdered sugar for buttercream until fluffy, then add heavy cream and cooled syrup.
- Once cakes are cool, assemble by brushing layers with syrup and topping with buttercream.
- Frost the entire cake with remaining buttercream and decorate as desired.
