Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your cake pans by greasing and dusting with flour.
  2. Sift together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Mix the wet ingredients: buttermilk, oil, eggs, vanilla, and sour cream, then combine with dry ingredients.
  4. Stir in boiling water to achieve a thinner batter consistency, then pour into prepared pans.
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean, then cool in pans for 10 minutes.
