- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13 baking dish with butter.
- Peel the sweet potatoes and slice them into ½ inch thick rounds. Arrange in the prepared baking dish.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, butter, water, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir until smooth.
- Pour the glaze over the sweet potatoes and cover the dish with aluminum foil. Bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and check for doneness. If tender, add optional toppings and bake uncovered for an additional 10-15 minutes.
- Allow the candied sweet potatoes to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
